The New Jersey Chapter will be running a series of ads over three consecutive Mondays, beginning September 21 in the New Jersey Law Journal to mark Professional Legal Management Week. The ad will be to solicit entries in the first annual NJALA Above and Beyond awards to be given to five exceptional law firm employees.

The Greater Chicago Chapter of ALA together with the Chicago Chapters of American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), International Legal Technology Association (ILTA), International Paralegal Management Association (IPMA), Legal Marketing Association (LMA), and the Chicago Chapter of the International Facilities Management Association placed an ad in the Chicago Law Bulletin recognizing the week. These Associations' Web sites, along with the PLMW Web site, have also been listed on the Greater Chicago Chapter Web site under the Resource section as a Chapter Alliance. The PLMW Webinar, being held on October 6, will also be promoted through the chapter's online calendar along with e-mail promotion.

10·06·09 The East Bay Chapter is inviting their members
to attend the PMLW Webinar on October 6 and hosting a luncheon for the event.
10·06·09 The Central Florida Chapter held a breakfast and invited
members of other legal associations LMA, ILTA, etc. to join them. This year, they planned a reception on
Tuesday, October 6th, to mark Professional Legal Management Week. Their invitations will encourage members
to bring other managers from their firms Marketing Directors, CFOs or Controllers, Directors of IT, HR Directors, etc.
The event was held at a local downtown wine bar and featured beverages and appetizers at no cost to thier guests.
The local paper, The Orlando Sentinel, runs a section each
Monday, "The Law & You," and they submitted a press release regarding PLMW and the role ALA plays in the professional growth
of law firm leaders.

The Memphis Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators will be marking Professional
Legal Management Week on October 6th with a CLE entitled "Centered Leadership" presentation by Kathy Story, Esq., a well known consultant in the legal industry. The CLE is from 8:30 am - 10:00 am at The Crescent Club, 6075 Poplar Avenue, breakfast at 8:00 a.m. There will be a $25 fee for non-member attorneys. The New Orleans Chapter held a Managing Partners' Breakfast with a speaker from Hildebrant. The theme was
Leading and Managing Change in a Law Firm.

The Nutmeg chapter will be holding an appreciation event to mark Professional
Legal Management Week. The evening event will be an opportunity to discuss PLMW in
addition to being a forum for members to thank their business partners for their continued
support. The complimentary event will take place on October 8, at the Rocky Hill Marriott CT.

10·08·09 The Maryland Chapter, in conjunction with local ILTA and LMA members will be hosting a PLMW workshop on Social Networking as a Marketing Tool on October 8. The PLMW Webinar, being held on October 6, will also be promoted through the chapters online calendar.

10·13·09 The Jacksonville Chapter will be holding a Managing Partners luncheon October 13th. John Chappelear will be speaking about the "Daily Six".
10·15·09 The Kansas City Chapter held a program and roundtable discussions and invited officers from the
various local organizations:
- bar associations (which included minority bar associations);
- law schools;
- ILTA;
10·16·09 The Independence Chapter has
planned a panel presentation for two classes at The Chester County Technical College High School on October 16th. They
will discuss employment opportunities (other than as an attorney) in the legal profession. They have invited several
employees from various firms who "started in the mail room" and worked their way into administrative or supervisory
roles to also speak. They will present several sessions and are expecting up to 55 students in each session. Throughout
the discussion they will encourage questions that will help give the students a better understanding of the opportunities in
a law firm or legal department. They will then plan to follow up by inviting interested students to visit their firms and
possibly shadow an employee for part of a day. In addition they’ve encouraged their members to listen to the
PLMW Webinar on October 6.
Dec. 2008 - Jan. 2009 The Wisconsin Chapter developed a "Help 411" video clip
on being a legal administrator and placed it on the Wisconsin State Bar Web site; Attorney Development streaming video
programs.
In development The Indiana Chapter is attempting to develop a relationship with the Indianapolis Public Schools and develop a high school program with a special concentration in the study of law and public policy.
2008 Schedule of Events
The Alaskan chapter of ALA placed an ad in the local Bar Rag recognizing the week. The PLMW Web site and free Webinar was highlighted at the chapter meeting.
9·23·08 : Webinar
"The Greening of the Legal Profession." This informative Webinar offered the latest thinking on ways to make your law firm or office more environmentally friendly. This 90-minute program also included a Q&A segment, which allowed for the exchange of ideas from Webinar participants.
The Mississippi Chapter hosted a special Professional Legal Management Week luncheon featuring two national ALA officers as guests. Wendy Rice-Isaacs, national ALA President, was a guest speaker at a luncheon meeting on Tuesday, September 23 at the Capital Club in downtown Jackson, Mississippi. Jim Allen, national ALA At-Large Director and a member of the chapter, also spoke. In attendance were ALA chapter members, firm management guests, and managing partners.
9·25·08 The Boston Chapter sent an e-newsletter to all chapter members highlighting PLMW. This information will also be posted on the chapter website, announced at their monthly meeting as well as discussed and promoted at several member and vendor events that have been scheduled.
The Wichita Area Chapter publicized PLMW to managing partners and the Wichita Bar
Association in three ways: 1) A flyer advertising their
October retreat as well as PLMW was included in the Bar’s regular mailing to attorneys; 2) the chapter’s meeting
announcement published in the Bar’s October journal contains a reference to PLMW; and 3)
individual, personal letters are being sent from the chapter
president to each member’s managing partner(s), highlighting PLMW as well as the member’s benefits of ALA/WALA
membership and the contributions that each has made to the organization.
This year for PLMW the Puget Sound Chapter will be running a week’s worth of ads on
KUOW, a local public radio station. The Chapter President, Lisa Miner, will send a letter to Managing Partners in the
area outlining what PLMW is and thanking them for their part as a member of a legal administrative team and
reminding them to thank the team in their office.
The Knoxville Chapter of ALA has placed an ad in
the October issue of the Knoxville Bar Association’s Legal Publication the “Dicta.” The October issue is the largest
issue each year.
The Big Sky Chapter is running a PLMW ad in the Montana Lawyer Bar Magazine in the October issue.
The South Florida Chapter placed ad in the local "legal" newspaper thanking their member firms and sent a letter to each managing partner.
The Greater Kansas City chapter of ALA invited various legal leaders in the
community to their October Chapter Meeting. Invited were presidents of the various bar associations and
sub-groups plus the local leaders of ILTA, AALL and IPMA. There will also be a follow up article in the KCMBA local
publication.
The New York City Chapter will be running an advertisement in the New York Law Journal, "Creating
Awareness of the Contribution of the Professional Legal Management Team". This advertisement will run for 4 days
and directs readers to this site for more information about PLMW. Additionally, the chapter president will address
PLMW in the newsletter as part of the president's message. This newsletter, along with president's message
addressing PLMW, will be sent to the managing partners of member firms.
To mark Professional Legal Management Week, the Minnesota Chapter has placed an ad in the Hennepin
Lawyer, a weekly magazine through the Hennepin County Bar Association.
ALA’s Capitol Chapter ran a color ad in the Legal Times thanking
all of the member firms for supporting their managers and the legal management profession. It included the PLMW
logo and the names of all of the firms.

The San Diego Chapter of ALA planned a “Couture for a Cause” which combined PLMW with this year’s CCW event.
10·06·08 - 10·10·08
The Rochester, New York, Chapter is having a group photo shot of the chapter members
to use with an article in the local legal newspaper which is published 5 days a week. Basically it will be “Is your
administrator in this picture?” The article will explain the strengths and skills that the members of ALA bring to
their firms in the various areas of firm management. It will also give background on the ALA and the local chapter
to promote both professional management and membership in our organization.

The Pittsburgh Chapter of ALA planned a panel presentation for a class at
Duquesne University Paralegal Institute in Pittsburgh on October 6. They had five chapter members
representing five areas of firm administration on the panel. They started with an introduction and then
proceeded to ask three questions of all panelists . The
presentation was
approximately one hour in length. The class was approximately 50 students.
In addition, the chapter also sent a press release to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for a business page article.

ALA’s Marlyand Chapter, along with local area ILTA and LMA Chapters will host a joint workshop in
observance of PLMW. The workshop will include a presentation on Search Engine Optimization. After the presentation, there
will be an opportunity for these professionals to network during a small social gathering. The event is from 3 - 5p.m. on
Wednesday, October 7, 2008. The program will take place at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP, 7 St. Paul Street, 19th Floor,
Chesapeake I and II Rooms, Baltimore, MD 21202. If you have colleagues in other firms or others within your own firm who
share your interest in this topic, please invite them to attend with you. Nonmembers are always welcome. There is no cost to
attend.

To mark PLMW the South Florida Chapter ran an ad on October 7th. The South Florida Chapter also
sent a letter to the managing partner of each member's firm.

To mark Professional Legal Management Week, the Kohn Law Firm S.C., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will
hold a luncheon for all department managers. The firm’s managing partner and attorney litigation manager will attend as well.
Each manager will receive a gift album to choose a gift from. The firm’s monthly calendar for October will list the celebration
event.

The San Diego Chapter, is working with the Daily Transcript, the local legal newspaper, to
come out with a special section on October 8th entitled San Diego
Legal Management to educate its readers about what the members of the various PLMW cosponsors do. Along with
the Daily Transcript, the San Diego Chapter formed a committee of ALA members; Legal Secretary Association
members; Paralegal Association members; Legal Library Association members, as well as representatives from business partners
who work with law firms. The committee came up with topics the special section should cover and the criteria for two categories
the section will recognize. One category is Outstanding Legal Professional and the other is Best Practices in a law firm. The criteria
and request for nominations was emailed out to all attorneys in San Diego as well as subscribers to Daily Transcript. The section
will have articles written by our members about legal management and about ALA to educate the readers about PLMW.
The Daily Transcript also sponsored a reception
inviting community leaders, attorneys and individuals nominated as outstanding Legal Professionals and/or from firms that
were nominated in the Best Practices category.
The Daily Transcript also ran an article along
with a PLMW press release.

The Austin-Central TX Chapter will be hosting a round-table discussion on October 13 for the students
of the Legal Studies graduate program at TX State, specifically those enrolled in Legal Administration section. The panel will include
administrators from small, medium and large firms, as well as legal HR and finance professionals. The discussion will focus on
promoting the many opportunities within Legal Administration, as well as ALA membership.

The Northern Virginia Chapter is marking Professional Legal Management Week with their annual chapter
Career Summit. Mauricio Velasquez, President of Diversity Training Group will make a presentation “Diversity – Understanding
the Issues”. After the presentation the chapter is having a wine tasting as a chance to mingle with our partners and potential
members.

of paralegal students at a local community college--West Valley College in Saratoga, CA.
