  • CAPITAL CHAPTER
    The Capital Chapter helped to promote PLMW on the DC Bar website with an advertisement. The ad will run September 30 through October 7. They are also running an ad in the online newsletter Legal Bisnow three times during PLMW.
     

  • FORT WORTH CHAPTER
    The ALA Fort Worth Chapter is beginning a relationship with the Tarrant County Bar Association.
     

  • GATEWAY CHAPTER
    In support of the PLMW initiative, the Gateway Chapter will host a networking and happy hour event at JoeBuck's Restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri on Tuesday, October 4 from 4:30–6:30 p.m. The Chapter extends invitations to its Diamond, Platinum, Gold and Silver level business partners, as well as members from the following legal organizations:

    • Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM)
    • International Legal Technology Association – St. Louis (ILTA)
    • Legal Marketing Association – St. Louis (LMA)
    • Mid-America Association of Law Libraries – St. Louis (MAALL)
    • Recruiting Association of St. Louis (RASL)
    • St. Louis Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA)
    • St. Louis Paralegal Association (SPA) Women in eDiscovery

    To create awareness of the legal management profession, Gateway Chapter President Donna Sobkoviak will speak briefly about ALA, the Gateway Chapter and her role as President. A representative from each of the other organizations will speak briefly as well. The Gateway Chapter created an ad promoting PLMW which the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis placed in their weekly electronic newsletter. The ad acknowledged ALA and fellow associations who are participating in the event. The chapter plans to have a scavenger hunt during happy hour to encourage members to interact with the business partners.
     

  • GREATER LOS ANGELES CHAPTER
    The Greater Los Angeles Chapter plans to launch a new web page for PLMW organizations and their events. When organizations offer their discounted member rate to ALA Greater Los Angeles Chapter members, the chapter will promote the event on the new site with a short description and a link. The chapter hopes that this will open up more educational/networking activities among the various organizations. The Greater Los Angeles Chapter will also hold its fourth annual Justice Jog on October 2, and PLMW will be mentioned. The October Board meeting falls on October 5, and attendees will be reminded that by being an active chapter member and serving on the board, they are fulfilling some of the highest ideals of professionalism by continuing their education and working on their leadership skills. They will also continue to reach out to members to attend Board meetings – they are open to all members!
     

  • JACKSONVILLE CHAPTER
    The Jacksonville Chapter will be making a presentation at Florida Coastal Law School on September 22. The presentation will be on professionalism in law firms.
     

  • MINNESOTA CHAPTER
    The ALA Minnesota Chapter (ALAMN) requested and have received a Proclamation from the Governor or Minnesota declaring Oct 3–7 Professional Legal Management Week in the State of Minnesota. The chapter will highlight one legal management position each day during the week on the home page of the website. There will be a short informational blurb in the chapter's email blasts. Chapter President–Elect Michele Sauder is writing an article that will be published in the October chapter newsletter, The Verdict. She will also send the article to the bar associations and other legal organizations for possible publication.
     

  • NEBRASKA CHAPTER
    The Nebraska Chapter (Nebraska–ALA) is in the process of building a Business Partner Program and developing collaborative relationships with the local Omaha Bar and the Nebraska State Bar Associations (NSBA) to increase awareness of Nebraska–ALA and legal management in general. They have recently addressed the Nebraska and Iowa joint small and solo firm conference on the topic of legal management and submitted the first of a series of articles on legal management to The Nebraska Lawyer magazine. They will host a table at the NSBA annual meeting in October.
     

  • NEW ORLEANS CHAPTER
    The New Orleans Chapter is hosting a Legal Leadership Luncheon on October 4. Members will invite one or more of their managing partners to attend the luncheon with them at an historical New Orleans restaurant, Ralph's on the Park. They have hired Paul Burton to give a presentation on "The Waterfall Effect — Leveraging Leadership Time."
     

  • NEW YORK CITY CHAPTER
    The New York City Chapter (ALANYC) is partnering with the New York Law Journal to raise awareness for Professional Legal Management Week through advertising in the journal. Additionally, ALANYC has partnered with ARMA International, AIIM, New York City Paralegal Association and Institute of Internal Auditors and Contoural to host a Symposium on Advanced Records, Information Management and Litigation Readiness.
     

  • NUTMEG CHAPTER
    On October 6, the Nutmeg Chapter will host its annual appreciation event for ALA Nutmeg Chapter members and business partners. This event falls during Professional Legal Management Week (PLMW) and gives them the opportunity to celebrate their roles as legal administrators as well as to honor business partners for their dedication to, and support of, the Nutmeg Chapter, its members and its programs. The event will be held at the Rocky Hill Marriott beginning at 5:30pm and will feature a wine tasting and heavy hors d’oeuvres.

  • OTTOWA CHAPTER
    The Ottawa Chapter is attending the "Leaders for Mental Health Breakfast" for the Royal Ottawa Hospital Foundation on October 4. They have formed a table of eight members and will be wearing ALA logo golf shirts. Many high profile business leaders attend this event along with the local media. The chapter chose to combine this initiative with its Community Challenge Weekend project by raising funds for the Royal Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
     

  • PITTSBURGH CHAPTER
    In support of the PLMW initiative, the Pittsburgh Chapter is partnering with other professional organizations to offer four educational programs. Each program will cover educational areas of interest that cross over the professional areas for each organization. Programs have been planned with the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Professional Services Marketing Association (PSMA), the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA), and the Pittsburgh Human Resource Association (PHRA), a local Chapter of SHRM. The chapter is marketing these educational programs as "Partnered Programs" and will be conducting the series over the next several months.
     

  • SAN DIEGO CHAPTER
    The San Diego Chapter of ALA celebrates PLMW with the Fourth Annual Couture for a Cause, a gala charity fashion show spearheaded by the San Diego Chapter. This year the list of partnering law–related organizations to join with the chapter to produce the event has grown to eight. The San Diego County Bar Association is the most recent association to jump on board, joining the San Diego Chapter of the South Asian Bar Association, the San Diego Paralegal Association, San Diego Legal Secretaries Association, Lawyers Club of San Diego, Legal Marketing Association – Southern California Chapter, Women in E-Discovery – San Diego Chapter, and the San Diego Chapter of Mother Attorney Mentoring Association. This event was developed to celebrate both Community Challenge Weekend and PLMW by bringing the local legal community together in an unprecedented manner. With the San Diego Chapter of ALA at the helm, Couture for a Cause promotes a better understanding of ALA, what administrators do on a regular basis, the chapter members' commitment to community, and has engendered an extraordinary level teamwork among the legal community at large.
     

  • SILICON VALLEY CHAPTER
    The Silicon Valley Chapter has always been an enthusiastic sponsor of PLMW activities. This year they are hosting a lunch presentation to which ALA chapter members are encouraged to bring their managing partners or other attorneys. The speaker is the newly elected District Attorney of Santa Clara County. As DA, he runs one of the largest law offices in the area, and he’s going to talk about administrative issues he's facing in running his office.
     

  • SOUTH FLORIDA CHAPTER
    The South Florida Chapter is working with the Florida State Bar Association to raise awareness all year long. They will provide brief articles on law practice management issues written by members that will be published in the State Bar's monthly publications. The chapter is also working with the director of the Law Office Management Assistance section on other ways to participate with the state bar and raise awareness of ALA and the profession of legal management.
